Melanie Dusseault was born in 1983 in the Eastern Townships, a region where the landscapes and picturesque towns were a great source of inspiration to her wandering mind.
Her entry in Fine Arts in 2000 at the Cégep de Granby-Haute-Yamaska was a landmark year for Melanie. It is in the darkroom, under red lights that her sleepy minxes found a breath, a language, a place to express themselves without compromise. Melanie discovers that it is in this place and nowhere else that she will hear the more intimate reverberations of her inner voice, a tumultuous and agitated voice, but also sweet and compassionate! The revealing bins have brought to light a new image of herself and the world as she sets it on paper: photography as screaming light.
After her experience in the darkroom, Melanie continues her studies at University of Quebec in Montreal in Visual and Media Arts. She continues to turn the camera permitting her other selves to escape in front of the lens, giving birth to a series of self-portraits in the form of spatial installation. But again, Melanie, insatiable, gets tired of visiting her own body's geography.
Further to new wanderings (Spain, Greece, Turkey, United Kingdom, Germany, Peru, etc.)., she meets the Other, both as space and as a face. Her approach becomes plural and documentary, but no less creative. Sometimes like a box that captures shadow, light parcels, buried secrets, forgotten fragments of ourselves, sometimes as a box that sets traces of human events, headlights, solemn gestures or capturing the essence of celebrations. For Melanie, the camera impervious to time, turns into a box without borders, open to snapshot and memory.
Since then, Melanie continues to perfect her technical knowledge. She has done professional development workshops in commercial photography at Marsan College. Eager to participate in the social life of her community while contributing to its economic and cultural development, she is involved both among residents, shopkeepers and community organizations in the Hochelaga-Maisonneuve district as among emerging artists, offering versatile and quality photo services.
